Updated over a year ago

Focus Area: Social Anxiety

Overview: The Social Interaction Anxiety Scale (SIAS) is a 20 question measure that looks at social anxiety, specifically when talking or meeting other people that may involve scrutiny. It is widely used and may be helpful for tracking symptoms over time.

Total number of items: 20

Administration: Self-report

Standardized cadence: Weekly

Supported subscales: Social phobia, Anxiety

Age range: Adult

Scoring and interpretation: Possible scores range from 0 to 80. Higher scores are associated with higher social anxiety. The author of the measure, Peters (2000), defined the cut-off score as 36. In other words, a score of 36 or higher suggests a possible diagnosis for social anxiety.

Reliability/Validity: The SIAS has shown validity when compared with other measures such as the Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory (SPAI) as well as clinician-rated scores.
