Overview: The Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS) looks at depression, anxiety, and stress. Each of these three topics have 14 questions devoted to them with additional sub-focuses for each. The Depression scale looks at dysphoria, hopelessness, devaluation of life, self-deprecation, lack of interest/involvement, anhedonia, and inertia. The Anxiety scale looks at autonomic arousal, skeletal muscle effects, situational anxiety, and subjective experience of anxious affect. The Stress scale looks at difficulty relaxing, nervous arousal, and being easily upset/agitated, irritable/over-reactive and impatient.

Scoring and interpretation: Answers are scored on a 4-point Likert scale from 0 to 3 with 0 for "Did not apply to me at all" and 3 for "Applied to me very much, or most of the time." Scores are summed and total scores range from 0 to 126. Higher scores are associated with more severe symptoms.

In addition, there are 3 subscales which are also summed.
