Brief Description
The Valuing Questionnaire (VQ) is a psychological assessment tool designed to measure an individual's ability to identify and pursue personally meaningful values. It evaluates two dimensions: progress (how effectively a person is living in accordance with their values) and obstruction (the degree to which internal and external barriers hinder them from pursuing these values). The VQ is often used in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help individuals clarify their values and work towards a more values-driven life.

Summary of Scoring and Interpretations
While taking the Valuing Questionnaire (VQ), respondents rate each item on a 6-point Likert scale, where 0 represents "not at all true" and 6 represents "completely true." The VQ consists of two subscales: Progress and Obstruction, each containing 5 items.
Progress Subscale: Sum the scores for the items (questions 3, 4, 5, 7, 9) related to progress in living according to one’s values. Total score range is 0-30. Higher scores indicate a greater alignment with personal values.
Obstruction Subscale: Sum the scores for the items (questions 1, 2, 6, 8, 10) related to obstacles in living according to one’s values. Total score range is 0-30. Higher scores indicate more significant barriers to living in line with personal values.
Scores can be interpreted as following:
| Low Progress | High Progress |
Low Obstruction | May indicate a lack of engagement with values or minimal obstacles, but also minimal progress. | The individual is effectively living according to their values with minimal barriers.
|
High Obstruction | Suggests significant barriers are hindering the individual from living according to their values. | While the individual is making progress toward their values, they face significant obstacles. |
