Brief Description
The Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire (CFQ) is the most widely used psychological assessment tool to measure cognitive fusion. Cognitive fusion refers to the extent to which an individual's thoughts dominate their awareness and influence their behavior and is a key concept in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). The CFQ consists of 7 items and respondents indicate how much they agree with statements that reflect cognitive fusion, such as how often they believe their thoughts or how much control their thoughts have over their actions. The score of the CFQ provides insight into how much an individual experiences cognitive fusion in their daily lives. The scale is used both in clinical settings to guide treatment and in research to study the effects of cognitive fusion on mental health.

Summary of Scoring and Interpretations
The CFQ consists of 7 items, each rated on a Likert scale ranging from 1 (“Never true”) to 7 (“Always true”). The total score of the CFQ is calculated by summing the item scores. Total scores range from 7 to 49; higher scores indicate greater cognitive fusion, which suggests that the individual has a stronger tendency to be dominated by their thoughts.

Clinical Considerations
Estimated time of completion: 2-4 minutes.
While originally developed for and is typically used in adults, it has been validated for the age range of 11-17 year-olds.
Higher scores on the CFQ indicate greater cognitive fusion, which can be associated with various psychological difficulties, such as anxiety and depression.
