Brief Description
The Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II (AAQ-II) is a 7-item self-report measure designed to assess psychological flexibility, a core concept in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Psychological flexibility refers to the ability to stay in contact with the present moment and accept thoughts and feelings without attempting to control or avoid them, while also committing to behaviors aligned with personal values. Psychological inflexibility is associated with greater emotional distress (e.g. higher levels of depression and anxiety) and poorer life functioning (e.g., more absence from work). The measure is widely used in both clinical and research settings to evaluate the effectiveness of ACT interventions and the relationship between psychological flexibility and mental health outcomes.

Summary of Scoring and Interpretations
The AAQ-II consists of seven items rated on a 7-point Likert scale, ranging from 1 (“Never true”) to 7 (“Always true”). The AAQ-II Total Score is calculated by summing the ratings for each item. Higher overall scores indicate less psychological flexibility, while lower scores suggest more flexibility.

Clinical Considerations
Estimated time of completion: 2-4 minutes.
The AAQ-II Total score can be used to assess the respondent's level of psychological flexibility and to track changes over time, especially in the context of interventions like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Cut-off scores around 24-28 are associated with cutoffs on measures of symptoms, like depression and anxiety.
