Brief Description
The Adjustment Disorder New Module-8 Life Stressor Screening (ADNM-8 Stressors) is the first part of the Adjustment Disorder New Module-8 (ADNM-8) tool. The measure assesses for the presence of life stressors in the respondent's life in the past two years. Respondents review a list of stressful life events and select "yes" or "no" on whether they have experienced each item. The respondent then identifies the stressor that has caused them the most strain.

Summary of Scoring and Interpretations
The ADNM-8 Stressors tool is meant to aid in identifying the presence of a stressful life event in the respondent’s life in the past two years. The tool lists 16 stressful life events where the respondent indicates “yes” or “no” if they have experienced this event in the past two years. Item 17 asks if any other stressful event has occurred that is not already listed. If any response is marked “yes,” it is recommended that the respondent be administered the second portion of the ADNM-8, which assesses the presence and severity of Adjustment Disorder symptoms.
Blueprint Adjustments
Part two of the ADNM is in Blueprint under the label Adjustment Disorder New Module-8 (ADNM-8).
Due to limitations with incorporating write-in information, the final question on this initial part of the ADNM-8, which requests respondents to identify major life stressors they have had to adjust to in the past, is not included in Blueprint. To adjust for this, clinicians are encouraged to clarify with the client which life event they identify as the most straining and are referring to when taking this assessment through the course of clinical discussion.
Clinical Considerations
Estimated time for completion: 3-4 minutes
If a respondent indicates on the ADNM-8 Stressors that a stressful life event has occurred, it is recommended that the ADNM-8 be administered to gain insight into the presence and severity of Adjustment Disorder symptoms.
The ADNM-8 Stressors tool is meant to enhance clinical decision-making. It should not serve as the sole basis for making a diagnosis.
The ADNM-8 Stressors is based on symptoms of Adjustment Disorder using ICD-11 criteria. The time frame identified for life stressors on the measure is up to 2 years. For diagnosing Adjustment Disorder, the time frame identified in the DSM-5 is “Once the stressor or its consequences have terminated, the symptoms do not persist for more than an additional 6 months.” Other diagnoses should be considered when symptoms persist longer than this time frame using the DSM-5.
