Summary of Scoring and Interpretations
The FM5 contains 15 questions scored on a 6-point Likert scale with values from 0 (“Not at all”) to 5 (“A great deal”). The FM5 contains 5 subscales: emotional stability, openness, agreeableness, extroversion, and conscientiousness. Note, each of the 5 subscales are scored separately (there is no total score). Scores for each subscale are calculated by summing the 3-item responses and ranges from 0 to 15; higher scores are associated with higher levels of identification with that dimension of personality. See the table below for subscales and their associated item numbers.
Subscale | Items |
Emotional Stability (ES) | 0-3 |
Openness (OPEN) | 4-6 |
Agreeableness (AG) | 7-9 |
Extroversion (EXT) | 10-12 |
Conscientiousness (CONS) | 13-15 |
The following are interpretations of each subscale:
People with high scores on emotional stability by definition are high on being at ease, relaxed and peaceful.
People with high scores on openness by definition are high on being imaginative, creative and curious.
People with high scores on agreeableness by definition are high on being kind, warm and trustful.
People with high scores on extroversion by definition are high on being talkative, extroverted, and sociable.
People with high scores on conscientiousness by definition are high on being responsible, reliable and practical.
